Electrostatic charge means a high electrical voltage which is, however, basically not harmful to human health because it contains only low energy. The smooth functioning of electronic components may, however, be impaired through electrostatic discharges; in addition an electrostatic charge may act as a potential ignition source, which could lead to an explosion in the presence of an explosive atmosphere.
