When the dimensions of doors and gates are determined, the compliance with legal provisions relating to exits in general, and emergency exits in particular has to be ensured. With regard to the location of doors and gates, the frequency and mode of use (i.e. person or vehicle traffic) has to be taken into account. In some cases, doors have to be transparent, or the traffic routes have to be marked and/or designated as such. If a gate is primarily used by vehicles (i.e. forklift trucks in warehouses) but also by passengers, a railing has to be provided, if no separate door can be provided for pedestrians. Special inspection duties apply to lifting and tilting gates.
