With regard to fire protection, the following general requirements must be met:
- The hazard of an outbreak of fire has to be minimized by means of suitable technical measures (i.e. replacing highly flammable materials by less flammable substances), organizational procedures (drawing up of fire protection regulations) and person-related action (instruction: no cigarettes to be placed in waste paper baskets, no use of radiant heaters, coffee machines must be switched off in the evening).
- Fire-fighting measures and evacuation planning are required (i.e. appointment of fire-protection officers, fire-fighting staff or a fire-fighting Team, instructions given to staff concerning the use of fire extinguishing equipment, drawing up an evacuation plan, regular fire-fighting exercises.
