This acronym stands for the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals. As in different countries different laws apply to the classification and labelling of chemicals, it may happen that the same substance is classified as toxic in one country and harmless in another. Unfortunately, the same can be said about other dangerous properties. The OECD therefore developed the GHS with the aim of achieving (global) uniformity. In the future, pictograms will be used instead of the current danger symbols, and the R(risk) and S(safety) statements will be replaced.
