It must either be impossible to reach hazard zones of work equipment (by observing safety distances) or these must be safeguarded by appropriate protective devices.
In principle, a distinction can be made between three causes for hazard zones, which, pursuant to the Regulation relating to Work Equipment (Arbeitsmittelverordnung, AM-VO) and the Regulation relating to Machinery Safety (Maschinensicherheitsverordnung,MSV of 2010) for manufacturers of machinery, partly call for different safety systems:
