Hazard Zones (of Machines)

It must either be impossible to reach hazard zones of work equipment (by observing safety distances) or these must be safeguarded by appropriate protective devices.
In principle, a distinction can be made between three causes for hazard zones, which, pursuant to the Regulation relating to Work Equipment (Arbeitsmittelverordnung, AM-VO) and the Regulation relating to Machinery Safety (Maschinensicherheitsverordnung,MSV of 2010) for manufacturers of machinery, partly call for different safety systems:
  • Hazard zones due to power transmission plant
  • Hazard zones due to (other) moving parts
  • Hazard zones due to tools or work elements

Besides mechanical dangers (cutting, crushing, piercing, etc.) hazard zones caused by heat, radiation, fire risk or electricity should not be overlooked.
