In Austria, every manufacturer of machines has the obligation under the Regulation relating to Machinery Safety (Maschinen-Sicherheitsverordnung. MSV 2010) to hand over to the buyer of a machine a German operating manual. Sections 71 to 74 of the Regulation deal with the minimum contents of the operating manual. In accordance with the Product Liability Act (Produkthaftungsgesetz), shortcomings in the operating manual are considered as equivalent to defects in the machine itself.
