The currently existing 64 safety recommendations (S statements) set forth in Annex B to the Chemicals Regulation (Chemikalienverordnung, ChemV) supply information on potential hazards, draw attention to the safe handling of chemicals and describe measures to be taken once a damage has occurred. For some types of risks, the S statements need not necessarily be made, if sufficient information is contained in the R (risk) statements. In the Globally Harmonised System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS), the S statements have been replaced by P (precautionary) statements.
