Co-ordination means the necessary co-operation between different employers in matters concerning the safety and health protection of all employees working at the same time in one location. “Uncoordinated” action must not cause any hazard to workers (example: an employee of company A switches off the main circuit for work to be done on electrical lines, whereas a worker of company B switches it on again, in order to have power for a machine. Pursuant to the Construction Work Co-ordination Act (Bauarbeiten-Koordinationsgesetz, BauKG), additional conditions are imposed on construction work: A planning and construction site co-ordinator has to be appointed and a Safety and Health Protection Plan (Sicherheits- und Gesundheitsschutz-plan, SiGePlan) must be drawn up.
