Hazardous work substances may cause acute or chronic ill health in human beings. Examples of acute effects: caustic, irritant, toxic, acute toxic. Examples of chronic effects: carcinogenic, sensitizing, toxic to re-production. Especially substances with chronic effects are frequently under-estimated as no (acute!) symptoms or complaints are immediately observed.
