see also Evacuation; Along the safeguarded escape areas only low flammable loads are permissible (no billboards with loose notices!), moreover, walls, ceilings, floors and stairs must be made of highly fire retardant materials with low combustibility and low smoke development. It must be possible to avoid the propagation of dense smoke (i.e. by means of smoke funnels).
Doors to adjoining rooms which are not safeguarded escape areas have to be sealed against smoke, be made of fire retardant material and close automatically.
