All machines that have been placed on the market in the European Economic Area as of January 1, 1995 for the first time have to comply with the provisions of the Machinery Safety Directive or, if placed on the market after the end of the year 2009, with the provisions of the Machinery Safety Directive of 2010 and must bear the CE marking testifying to their compliance. The declaration of conformity that has to be handed over to the buyer is at least as important as the CE marking affixed to the machine.
