In accordance with the Machinery Safety Regulation (Maschinen-Sicherheitsverordnung, MSV of 2010), a partly completed machine is a unit placed on the market that constitutes an assembly which is nearly a machine but cannot perform a certain function by itself. A drive system is also considered as a partly completed machine. For partly completed machines, a special conformity assessment procedure has to be carried out; technical documentation, instruction for assembly and a declaration of incorporation have to be drawn up.
