Experts for safety at work are primarily preventive safety specialists (preventive services) who have to be appointed by the employer. The tasks, training and service hours of such staff are defined in Part Seven of the Labour Protection Act (ArbeitnehmerInnenschutzgesetz, ASchG). Safety representatives (SVP) have to be regarded as staff representatives for matters concerning safety at work. Furthermore, employers have to appoint additional qualified personnel such as fire protection or laser protection officers, if the need arises.
