Alongside the general obligation of employers to conduct risk assessments at work pursuant to Sections 4 and 5 of the Labour Protection Act (ArbeitnehmerInnenschutzgesetz, ASchG), specific evaluation and documentation duties are set forth in the Labour Protection Act and its appurtenant regulations. In some subject areas, the evaluation requirement provides for a modular structure and, based on the provisions of Sections 4 and 5 of the Labour Protection Act, defines special and further procedures and measures. This is the case if work equipment has been modified or combined with other devices, hazardous substances are used, explosive atmospheres exist or workers are exposed to noise or vibrations, if blasting operations have to be performed, VDU work has to be done or loads are to be handled manually.
