Testing (in accordance with the PPE Regulation)

The manufacturer or distributor of personal protective equipment has to check its proper functioning prior to its sale; type approval tests by accredited testing institutions are mandatory for nearly all commercially available PPE. The general requirements for PPE are set forth in the Regulation relating to Personal Protective Equipment (Verordnung über persönliche Schutzausrüstung), whereas specific requirements and criteria are defined in the relevant testing and quality standards. Users have to check PPE for obvious defects prior to use (visual inspection). Defective PPE should not be stored but immediately withdrawn.
